Stop Trying To Fix Everything In Your Therapy Business

8 min read · July 2026

If you've recently completed the Therapy Business Health Check, you now know something you didn't know a few weeks ago: exactly where your business is strong, and exactly where it isn't.

For most therapists, that clarity brings relief. Finally, a proper answer instead of a vague feeling that "something isn't quite right."

But for some therapists, that clarity brings a different reaction entirely: panic.

Because once you can see everything that needs attention, laid out clearly across five areas, the temptation is to try and fix all of it. Right now.

This month, if possible. I want to gently stop you before you do that.

"You don't need to fix everything this month. You just need to fix the right thing."

Why fixing everything at once doesn't work

I've watched this pattern many times, both in my own business and in the therapists I mentor. Someone completes an assessment, a review, or simply a moment of honest reflection, and comes away with a long list.

New pricing structure. Better boundaries. A proper follow-up system. Consistent social media. A clearer brand message. Updated policies. A backup plan for cancellations.

All valid. All worth doing eventually. All completely overwhelming when attempted together.

Here's what tends to happen next.

You start strong.

You tackle two or three things at once.

Within a fortnight, the momentum has stalled, none of the changes are fully in place, and you feel worse than before you started, because now you've also got proof that you "can't keep it up."

This isn't a discipline problem. It's a sequencing problem.

Strong businesses are built one decision at a time

Every therapy business I've seen thrive, including my own, has been built through a series of individual decisions made consistently over time, not through dramatic, all-at-once transformations.

Solis didn't become fully booked because I fixed everything in one go. It became fully booked because, at each stage, I identified the one thing that was most holding me back and dealt with that first.

Early on, that was clarity. I didn't have a clear enough idea of who I wanted to work with or how to describe what I did.

Later, it was systems. My booking process was fine when I had ten clients. It fell apart at forty.

More recently, it's been sustainability. Protecting my hands, my time and my energy so the business I built doesn't cost me my health.

At no point did I try to fix all three at once. Each one had its moment.

How to find your one thing

If you've completed the Health Check, you'll already have a sense of which pillar scored lowest, Clarity, Communication, Confidence, Consistency, or Sustainability.

That's usually your starting point. Not because the other pillars don't matter, but because the lowest-scoring pillar is normally the one quietly undermining the others.

A therapist with low Confidence often struggles with Communication too, because it's hard to describe your value clearly when you don't quite believe it yet.

A therapist with low Consistency often finds their Sustainability suffers, because inconsistent income makes everything else feel precarious.

Fix the foundational issue, and the others frequently become easier, sometimes without you touching them directly at all.

If more than one pillar feels equally weak, ask yourself a simpler question: which one, if it improved, would make the biggest difference to how I feel about my business this month?

Not in an ideal world. This month.

What 'fixing' actually looks like

I want to be honest about something. Fixing the one thing rarely looks as dramatic as we imagine.

It might mean writing down, properly, in one sentence, who you help and how. It might mean sending one message to raise your prices for new clients. It might mean building a simple end-of-treatment routine so you stop forgetting to rebook people. It might mean blocking one afternoon a week that's genuinely just yours.

Small. Specific. Doable this month.

The businesses that grow steadily aren't the ones with the most ambitious plans. They're the ones where the next small thing actually gets done.

A permission slip

If you take nothing else from this, take this: you're allowed to leave things unfixed for now.

The pricing structure that isn't quite right yet.

The social media that's inconsistent.

The website copy that needs updating.

They can wait their turn.

Trying to hold everything at once isn't ambition.

It's usually a sign of not trusting yourself to come back to the rest later. But you will come back to it. One thing at a time, applied consistently, adds up to a completely different business within a year, and you'll have actually finished things along the way, rather than starting everything and completing nothing.

Where To Go From Here

If you haven't yet completed the Therapy Business Health Check, that's the natural starting point. It takes a few minutes and gives you a clear picture across all five pillars, so you're not guessing which one needs your attention first.

And if you've already got your results and you're ready to understand not just what needs work, but why it matters and how it connects to everything else, the Therapy Business Framework walks you through exactly that, one pillar at a time, in the order that actually makes sense for your business.

You don't need to fix everything this month. You just need to fix the right thing.
